Day 5: Traveling to and relaxing at Camp Kawkawa

After waking up in our Abbotsford billets' homes, we regrouped at a local park. The kids were given plenty of time to run around and wake themselves up, although a few of them were still feeling lethargic due to the cold being passed around the team. It isn't anything serious, but it is enough to be noticeable. Channy, who was under the weather before coming to Canada, looks to have improved, and it is quite humorous seeing her act as she normally does, which is a mischievous little imp.
We then made the drive to Camp Kawakawa, where we would be spending the night. Upon our arrival, we were notified of a bear in the area, which the kids found exciting. We ate lunch outside the lodge where we would be staying, our meals having been prepared by our billets that morning. Sreypow ate very slowly, as she threw up shortly after getting off the bus. We then got unpacked and the kids played outside, with volleyball being the game of choice. I occasionally got a child visitor as I worked in the dining hall on the blog, but interest would quickly be lost once they realized I wasn't watching videos or playing games.
Supper that night was prepared by Thawin. We had a meal of mixed veggies, fried tomatoes, rice and dried fish. It was a humorous meal for me, as the kids ate their food very loudly. The sound of mouths smacking as the kids focused on their food was strangely satisfying, as it showed that the kids were actually eating the food given to them.
After supper was my personal highlight of the tour so far. I was finally able to gave the kids try my Nintendo Switch 2. Those who followed the blogs for the previous tours know that my video games helped keep the kids occupied during down-time, but so far on this tour there hasn't been a moment for them to try. I used the rec room's television to set up my console, with eight of the children coming to play, while Hengleap acted as translator for instructions. Thawin and Seepat came shortly after to watch the kids play. It was a hilarious experience watching the kids play Mario Kart, as they became heavily invested very quickly.
After playing Mario Kart for a while, it was time to go to bed. The rooms in the lodge area were linked, meaning my room shared a door with Heang and Wan. It was funny the first time they opened the door to linking our rooms, but I had to put my foot down the third time it happened. As I lay in bed, I could hear the two boys giggling and goofing off, until one of the chaperones told them to be quiet.
Before I end the blog post, I must say a huge thank you to Stan and Alice Armenau, who drove out the tablet that is used for card payments at our marketplace, which I had left at their house! They also dropped off some additional supplies for us, making all our lives easier.
